Volunteers at the Gerstein Centre may participate in two different volunteer programs, follow-up support and the cooking program.

Follow-up support volunteers provide telephone support to people who have recently stayed at the Gerstein Centre. Volunteers in this program must participate in the training sessions which are offered one evening per week for 10 weeks.

Volunteers in the cooking program prepare an evening meal for those staying at the Centre or make baked goods for use at the Centre throughout the week. Cooking volunteers may involve people at the Centre in the meal preparation and often stay for supper to promote friendly conversation during the meal.

The Gerstein Centre is pleased to accept volunteer applications from consumer/survivors of the mental health system.

• Cooking Program:
  Volunteers who are able to prepare large meals (15+ people) are currently needed.
• Board of Directors:
  We are looking for volunteers for our Board of Directors, able to commit 3-5 hours per month for a minimum of one one-year term. Gerstein Centre is committed to equity principles and would like to broaden the diversity of our Board. We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals who represent the cultural diversity of Toronto and from those with personal experience of the mental health system. Previous experience with a community mental health organization in either a board or staff capacity would be considered an asset, as would financial skills.
